POTENTIAM LONGSLEEVE

The legendary Icelandic gothic Black Metal obscurity released their debut album "Bálsýn" in 1999, challenging the notions of what the sound of the genre ought to be at the time. Though this band is relatively unknown en masse compared to their contemporaries at the time, it's unique blend of gothic waltz-y elements combined with counter-melodic shredding makes Potentiam stand out compared to other bands from the late 90's. As pointed out by Arcane Archivist, Potentiam in some ways also draw from what was going on during the Gothenburg melodic Death Metal renaissance. Highly recommended listening for fans of Melodic Black Metal.
